Obituary for Janet Preston

Janet Preston
Janet Edith (Richardson) Preston
May 20, 1959 – March 5, 2017

We are stricken with incredible sadness over the sudden passing of this very special woman. Janet’s smile and personality could light up a room instantly. Even those she met for the first time would remark how her friendly nature and kind manner made them feel welcomed. Life is not always fair and sometimes even bitterly cruel but having Janet in our lives for her 57 years was a blessing.

Loved by all who knew her, Jan, leaves to mourn: her husband of 20 years, Tim Preston, her adored children, Taylor (19) & Brooks (16); her siblings, Peter Richardson(Lorna); Steve Richardson(Gloria); Jo-Ellen Abercrombie(Steve); Karen Gilligan(Brian); identical twin, Jane Hay(Bill); and Ruby Lockhart(Wayne); Tim’s parents, Gail and Ray Preston, and his sister, Tammy Trueman; her nieces & nephews, Dirk (Kelsey), Scott (Natalie), & Drew (Terri) Richardson; Alexandra, Melissa (Mike), & Elliott Richardson; Stacy (Abercrombie)Porter, Mike (Laura), & Dave Abercrombie; Meghan, & Mary (Steve) Gilligan; Emily, Jamie, & Kelly Hay; Nicole, & Matthew Lockhart; Paige, and Victoria Trueman; her great niece and nephews, Julie Richardson, Nolan & Liam Porter, and Carter Taylor Lockhart; special Aunts, Joan Fischer(Nelson); Trudie Ferguson(Dave); and Debbie Kennedy; and many cousins. Predeceased by her Mother, Mary Edith Richardson in 2000.

On Wednesday March 8th, a large crowd gathered in tribute to Jan at a Memorial Celebration in Chestermere. Jan worked at Comply Works, Calgary, almost 10 years and was greatly appreciated for her professionalism, positive attitude, and loving support of all co-workers. She was an inspiring middle-school basketball coach, enthusiastic volunteer with Chestermere Angels, and caring friend to many.

To further honour Jan, please join us on Saturday March 18th, at Cambridge Street United Church, Lindsay, for visitation with family starting at 12:00 p.m., Service in the Sanctuary at 2:00 p.m., and reception following in the lower hall (Cremation has already taken place.)

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. As well, please give as Janet always did; a warm hug to family and friends and compassion to those in need. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay (705)328-2721. Online donations and condolences can be made at www.mackeys.ca
