Obituary for William "Bill" Kay

William "Bill" Kay
Kay, William (Bill) ~ Passed away peacefully at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on December 10, 2017 after a fall. Bill had a full and active 87 years of life and always enjoyed humorous exchanges with those he came in contact with. Loving husband to his wife Anna May (Barr) for 65 years. Predeceased by his older brother Bob, and survived by his loving sister Helen Young Dale (Dave) of Congleton, Cheshire, England. Sons David (Brenda) and Alastair (Judy) will truly miss his support and love. Devoted grandfather to Jonathan (Shayna), Jennifer (Taylor), Andrew (Violante) and Ewan (Amanda) and great-grandchildren Charlotte, Penelope and Maite. Nieces and great-nephews Carolyn (Tom Childs) and their son Sebastian, Jennifer, Amanda, and Sharon (Ian Hennan) and their son Zachary, will all miss Bill’s playful verbal banter. Bill was born in Scotland, south of Glasgow, raised during the war years, and began his apprenticeship in Joinery. He enlisted in the British Army for the Korean War effort and became Sargeant after 2 years. As the war ended before he was due to go overseas, he and Anna then married in 1952 and he began his career as a joiner/carpenter. In 1966, Bill and Anna brought the family to Toronto where he worked for the Ontario Government Apprenticeship Program and then the Construction Safety Association. Moving to Pitts Construction as Safety Director, Bill established himself as a hard-working, honest, firm and fair manager. His superb rapport with the workers and his colleagues was appreciated and respected by all. Bill was a talented constructor, renovating homes and a cottage for the family. Retiring to Lindsay in 1991, Bill and Anna have enjoyed a happy time with their growing family and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors in the Emergency and Surgical departments at the Ross Memorial Hospital for their support and care. Family and friends are invited to the Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay on Friday, December 15th where a Celebration of Bill’s Life will take place from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Family remembrances will take place at 5:00 p.m. For those wishing, donations to the Salvation Army or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
