Obituary for Alex Lubbers

Alex Lubbers ~ February 5th, 2022, at the age of 86 years, Alex (Alidus) Lubbers moved from this earth to his heavenly home.

Exuberant, cheerful and a man of strong faith, Alex Lubbers is fondly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Nellie (Neeltje) Lubbers (nee Van Tilburg); his children and their spouses: Ralph (Line), Caroline (Tim), Leonard (Bonnie), Nelda (Paul), Veronica (Edward); his grandchildren: Victoria (Kyle), Gillian, Emily, Rachel, Jordan, Alexandrea, Rebekah, Bethany, Zachary, Nicholas, Theodore, Hudson, Gabriel, Sophie and Miranda; his sister, Roelofje (Derek); his sisters-in-law: Grietje (Jan) and Corrie (Jack); as well as nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives and friends.

Predeceased by his siblings, Gerrit (Marie), Geertruida (Hendrik), Hendrik (Kina), Ralph (Grace), Jan (Grietje, living), Fenna (Garrelt), and Willem (Trijntje); and by sister-in-law Alida (Jans), brother-in-law Jack (Corrie, living).

Born Alidus Lubbers, June 24, 1935, he was the second-youngest of nine children, to Willem and Roelofje Lubbers (nee Van der Spoel) of Odoornerveen, The Netherlands. Immigrating to Canada at age 19, he settled in Woodstock, Ontario. Marrying Nellie Van Tilburg on his 25th birthday, Alex was first a farmer, then a construction contractor, and finally an evangelist/minister.

Retiring to Rosedale, Ontario, Alex enjoyed living in cottage country, gardening, doing home renovation projects, and most of all visiting and hearing from family and friends, re-telling stories from his adventure-filled life and praying each day for his loved ones. His love for so many people will not be forgotten.

Visitaton will be held at Celebrations, 35 Lindsay Street North on Saturday, February 19th from 11:00am. - 12:45pm. with a service to follow at 1:00pm. Proof of Vaccination, masks and social distancing required.
