Obituary for Anna Thurston

Anna Louise Thurston entered peacefully into rest with family by her side at Victoria Manor on Thursday February 25, 2021.

Anna, in her 86th year, predeceased by her husband of 62 years, John (Jack) Laverne Thurston. Loving mother of Joe Thurston, Janet Vanderveen (Dale), Jeff Thurston and June Thurston. Cherished grandma of Holly Vanderveen (Brett), Daniel Thurston (Stephanie), Kendra Thurston (Jesse) and Graiden Vanderveen.

Anna was born into a loving, supportive family who believed in compassionate service to others. She lived the greater part of her life on the fourth generation Thurston family farm in Dunsford. She married Jack on September 14, 1957. They were dedicated, loving parents and enjoyed their loving, extended families. Anna trained as a registered nurse at Civic Hospital, graduating in 1956. She held a number of positions as a nurse but it was with the VON she found work she truly felt called to, caring for others in their homes and seeing them recover, or palliating them at home was rewarding for her. In the community of Dunsford she enjoyed her numerous roles in the Dunsford United Church, as a Board member, a UCW member, a leader in the VIBE summer children’s camp and various other supportive roles. She started a Food Bank at the Dunsford United Church over 20 years ago and did her best to support those in need. She was active in the community and voluntarily helped numerous people who needed support with their health. She served her community and her family, wherever the need was greatest. She was a second mom to her grandchildren, who she loved dearly and was very proud of. Her family will carry her in our hearts with many fond memories.
