Obituary for Carol Christine Cook

Carol Cook - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Carol Christine Cook (Whitby, Ontario), who passed away on November 21st, 2022 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, at the age of 69.  Carol passed away peacefully in the Critical Care unit, with some loved ones by her side, following a complicated illness and surgery in July 2022. Carol was predeceased by her parents, George and Stella Cook (nee Piper).  Carol had two brothers Norman and Michael Cook (Toronto, Ontario) but has not had contact with them for many years, although spoke fondly of them both and always talked about the wonderful memories the siblings shared growing up.  Carol is survived by her loving spouse, Darren Maine; her two sons, David and George (Kristin) Hutzel; and her four grandchildren, to whom she loved and adored, Jackson and Makenna (children to David Hutzel) and Bella and Poppy (children to George). Carol will forever be missed by her friends that she has made throughout her lifetime (some childhood friends) and also the close relationships she had developed over the years with caring neighbours and those in the helping profession.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors that were involved in her care at both St. Michael’s hospital and Lakeridge Health, over the past while for their kindness, care and compassion.  She was blessed to be treated with such dignity and humanity.

Those who knew Carol will remember her as a warm and kind spirit who always prioritized her family and friends, even above her self.  Carol would do anything for the ones she loved and did so without wanting or expecting anything in return.  Carol loved with her whole heart.  Her love for her “fur babies” was something that kept her going, even during the most challenging times of her life.  She loved her Shar Pei's, late Bently and Jasmine, and Holly (who will miss her mom very much).

When Carol was well enough, she loved to spend time out in the garden.  She connected with nature and always felt at peace whether it was just watching the birds, feeding the rabbits, or getting her hands in the garden and planting flowers.  Carol loved to prepare meals for those she loved, and always made the best turkey dinners and desserts.  She was the kind of women who opened her door to anyone and what was hers was yours, especially those in need.  Carol loved “her boys”, and some of the best memories they have of their mom, is growing up and Carol taking the boys and their friends to Lake Simcoe swimming in the summertime.  Carol and Darren shared a special bond, and they lived a quite life in Whitby up until her passing, where they took care of each other and found joy and gratitude each and everyday together and appreciated the smallest things in life and never took anything for granted.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, a donation to a Shar Pei Rescue in Ontario of your choice, in her memory, would be greatly appreciated by Carols family.
