Doreen McArthur, 93, of Lindsay, Ontario entered into rest peacefully with family by her side at Ross Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born in Waubaushene,Ontario to parents Herbert Wood and Josephine Miller. After a previous marriage she married George McArthur of Greenbank, Ontario in 1984.

Beloved mother of Elizabeth Cameron (Bruce) of Bobcaygeon. Stepmother to Brian McArthur (Ruth) of Toronto and Berry (late Phian) of Thailand. Devoted grandmother of Tracey Bruce (Brandon) of Burlington, Greg Cameron of Toronto and Adam Turner (Debbie) of Winnipeg and adored great grandmother of Sarah and Sophie. Cherished sister of Mae Lenchner (late Gerald) of Newmarket. Doreen was predeceased by her husband George, her son Richard (survived by Kristine) and granddaughter Heather (survived by Neil), sisters Margaret Hall, Mary James (late Cecil), Martha Strickland (late Victor), Audrey Fannin (survived by Paul) and her brother Harry Wood (survived by Helen). She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and her close friends.

Doreen worked at Wilson and Wilson which included the Lindsay Daily Post and Post Church Envelopes for 36 years. Starting in 1953 as secretary to owner Roy Wilson and eventually retiring in 1989 as president and general manager of the company. She was also a long-serving trustee of the estate he endowed to Lindsay.

Her roots inspired a life-long love of nature. Nothing could make her happier than a day on the water, surrounded by a landscape of granite rocks and mature trees. Her favourite travel destinations were Alaska and the Canadian east coast, especially Newfoundland. Over the past thirty years she has also enjoyed spending time and connecting with friends at her winter home in Punta Gorda, Florida.

Doreen faced the challenges of life head on with strength beyond measure. With an active mind and loving heart she enriched the lives of those around her.

Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near, still loved, still missed, and held so dear.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. If desired donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
