Obituary for Doug Johns

Douglas Lloyd Johns - Beloved husband and best friend of Susan Elliott-Johns, Doug passed away suddenly on January 15th at the Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay in his 77th year. Doug was the most wonderful, caring life partner to Susan for the past 25 years, and always took such great pride in maintaining his homes and gardens wherever they lived, most recently in Lindsay. He will be lovingly remembered, and greatly missed by all of his immediate and extended family in both Canada and the UK, as well as by the many colleagues, friends, and neighbours whose lives he touched with kindness, compassion, and respect. Doug always had a cheery smile and worked patiently to find a solution to any problem.

Doug was the quintessential gentleman, an outstanding educator and educational leader (York Region DSB, UPEI, and Lakehead University), and someone who adored his family. He also had a passion for the great outdoors and time spent camping over many years, as well as enjoying other hobbies and interests that included Ham radio, Celtic music, fishing, preparing creative and delicious meals, his Sudoku puzzles, watching sports, and travelling. Doug's "second home" was the beautiful garden of the gulf, Prince Edward Island, where he also made many dear friends over his years of visiting the Island, and when living there, 2000-2006.

Loving father of Heather (Jamie Young) and Brian (Mariangela De Gaetano). Adored and adoring Grandad to Cally and Jaxon, Vittoria and Luca. Remembered with love by his nephew David (Sherri Johns) and his great nephews, Gregory and Trevor; and Brad Joliffe. Pre-deceased by his mother Doris Johns, brother and sister-in-law Bob and Joan Johns, and his niece Kathy Johns. Forever loved and deeply missed by his sister-in-law Debbie (Brendan Shakeshaft), nieces Holly and Hannah; brother-in-law, Ed (Helen Elliott); and father-in law Mike (Elizabeth Elliott).
