Obituary for Ellen Keffer

How do you capture the essence of a person within the words of a paragraph. Especially a person that was full of as much character and sass as Ellen Rose Keffer (St. Germaine) January 13th 1939 - March 24th 2021. She passed away in Peterborough. Loving wife to the late Carl Keffer, daughter to Leonard and Agnes (Corrigan) St. Germaine. Was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada. Though she moved away from the city her heart never left the place where she was born.

Ellen was a strong, independent woman that loved exploring new places and experiencing new things. She spent her life traveling and loved nothing more than to watch the miles of the road go by through the window of a bus, train or motor vehicle.

Loving mother to her three kids, Linda (David) Bunn, Don (Theresa) Keffer, Rick (Virginia) Keffer. Grandmother to six grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Sister to two surviving brothers Leroy and Jim St. Germaine and predeceased by brothers Kenny and Tom St. Germaine. She was incredibly proud of her family and loved to hear how everyone was doing on their individual journeys.

Blessed with wonderful long time friends who she loved like family and whom she always kept in touch with through phone and visits. She was fortunate to always be surrounded by people who helped to make life worth living. Both through the good times and struggles. Having a deep love of animals and living her life in a way that showed her warm, loving heart. A story teller who entertained while helping spread smiles to those around her.

She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Our sincerest thanks to the Otonabee Township First Responders for their many visits the last six months and for showing such compassion, professionalism and understanding. And to the staff on the B2 ward of Peterborough Regional Hospital who looked after her in her last days with kindness and compassion during a difficult time, thank you.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and Stroke or Alzheimer's Society are welcome. Graveside service to be arranged at a later date in Toronto. Donations and condolences may be made through the Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay or online at www.mackeys.ca
