Obituary for Patricia Cook

Cook, Eva Patricia – Passed away peacefully at Fosterbrooke Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the age of 84. Daughter of the late William Tapsell and the late Dora (Wiley) of St. Thomas. Beloved wife of the late Jack Cook (2011). Cherished mother of the late Scott Cook (survived by Darlene). Loving grandmother of Ashley Cook-Fletcher (Ron) and Stacey Cook (Cindy).
Pat was an avid horsewoman, astute business lady, with a quick wit and infectious smile. Pat showed ponies as a young girl in St. Thomas, growing up on the farm at the former Premier Mitch Hepburn. She met Jack Cook as a young woman while working at London Life and together they married and moved to Whitby and started Cook’s Office Equipment in Oshawa. Pat got back into horses and showed many Palomino, American Saddlebred horses and Hackney ponies, some that she trained herself. Inducted into the Canadian Saddlebred Hall of Fame in 2004, was the defining moment and recognition of many fine championships over the years.
Pat had an enduring influence on those she met and always brightened every room she entered. She was very proud of her family, who continue to carry on the tradition of showing horses.
Pat’s last years were spent in Newcastle and she thrived in the care of Fosterbrooke Residence. The family would like to thank the staff of Fosterbrooke and Dr. McGarry, all of whom provide excellent care and a family atmosphere.
Visitation will take place at the Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay on Tuesday, October 8th from 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service in the chapel at 2:30p.m. If desired, a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Kawartha Lakes would be appreciated by the family.
