Obituary for Gillian Clarice Vernon (Newbrook)

Vernon, Gillian Clarice – Passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Monday, June 3rd, 2019. Gillian, at the age of 71, is the beloved wife of John in their 50th year of marriage. Loving mother of Richard (Stephanie) and Lisa (Nick). Cherished Nana of Caleb, Kaitlin and Amelia, and Grand Dog Wicket. Dear sister of Tony Newbrook and sister-in-law of Margaret Lane (William) and Rosemary Humphreys (George). She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Gillian was born in England and moved to Canada with her husband and young children in 1981. Gillian and her family lived in Montreal, Port Elgin and Pontypool before residing by the lake on O’Reilly Lane. Gillian retired from Algoma Orchards as the Office Manager in 2010 after 25 years of dedication. After her retirement, Gillian was a dedicated volunteer with the Ross Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in the roles of Financial Director and Director of Fundraising. Gillian and John also spent the cooler months enjoying the warm Florida sun. Gillian was an avid knitter who donated items to the Cancer Department at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa. She enjoyed spending time with her family playing games and fussing over her grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will take place at Celebrations, 35 Lindsay Street North, Lindsay on Saturday, August 3rd at 1:00p.m. and a reception will follow. If desired, a memorial donation to the Ross Memorial Hospital – Auxiliary Department would be appreciated by the family.
