Obituary for Hazen Ronald Blair

BLAIR, Hazen Ronald – (Farmer, Retired CN Railway Engineer) – Entered peacefully into rest with family by his side at the Ross Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 28, 2019. Hazen in his 85th year, is the beloved husband of Elsie Blair (née Wicks) in their 59th year of marriage. Loving father of William Blair (Joan), Wanda Blair, Gwendolyn Blair-Pelley (Joe), Scott Blair (Crystal), Heather Dart (Barry), James Blair (Angelica). Cherished Grandpa of 19 grandchildren and 15 Great-Grand grandchildren. Dear brother of Colin (the late Mary), Pearl Houghton (the late Ray), Eileen Lang (the late Conrad) and predeceased by Duncan (the late Ynys), Elwood (the late Margaret), Clayton (the late Irene) and Dave (the late Pearl). He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Born in Lochlin, Ontario in 1934, Hazen along with his family moved to Ops Township and made Reaboro their home. Hazen often recalled the numerous families and individuals in the rural community of his youth and mentioned how fortunate he was to grow up in a rural farming community made up of hardworking and honest people. Hazen enjoyed his career as a railroad engineer with the Canadian National Railway; however, Hazen's real passion was farming. Hazen brought a whole new understanding to the expression “Home Sweet Home” and would often be heard saying that there was no place like home, and he meant it. Hazen was most at home, working with cattle on the family farm and saw putting up a cedar rail fence as a treat rather than a task. During the later years, Hazen took great pride in seeing the boundless energy of his grandchildren at play on the front yard and continuously was tinkering with his beloved 2-cylinder John Deere tractors to keep them in working condition. Hazen always had time for a friendly chat or to offer anyone a helping hand. Hazen's quiet nature and proper stance in public would often give way to a fun-loving, quick-witted prankster to those who knew him best.

Visitation will take place at the Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay on Sunday, February 3rd from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at Calvary Pentecostal Church, 125 Victoria Avenue North, on Monday, February 4th from 1:00 until time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in the spring. If desired, a memorial donation to the SickKids Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Online donations and condolences can be made at www.mackeys.ca.

Thank you for all of your love and support over the years, we could not have asked for a better father. Love from all, Hazen, you will be greatly missed by all that have known you.
