Obituary for Doreen Taylor

Doreen Taylor (March 2, 1930-May 9, 2021) It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Doreen Taylor on May 9, 2021. She is predeceased by her beloved partner and husband Elvin Taylor of 62 years. Loving mother of Jo-Anne and her husband Jim Plumpton and their children Ryan (Katelynn), Michael, and Stephen; Elaine and her husband Greg Walling and their children Jackson and Thomas; Doug Taylor and his wife Tracy and their children Samantha and Sydney. She is remembered by her sister Mary (Gordon) Harrison, brother Jack Little, and sister-in-law Dorothy Taylor. Mom will be remembered for a long life filled with family, numerous friends, and community. She was unconditionally devoted to nursing and never saw it as a job. In 1953, she graduated from and began her career as a Reg. N at Ross Memorial Hospital. As a new bride, she moved to Toronto and was an RN at the Hospital for Sick Children and worked for the Victoria Order of Nurses in “The Beaches”. She returned to the area and to RMH as staff, before becoming an RNA instructor for l5 years, and finally as a hospital nursing supervisor. Her official career spanned 43 years. After officially retiring, she continued her commitment to others by visiting, caring or providing solace to friends, family and neighbours and volunteering with Community Care, Civitan Club, and the church. Mom loved the simpler things in life like watching the boats on Balsam Lake. She was an ardent fan of The Leafs, The Jays, The Argos. She cooked and baked masses of food, and Sunday dinner wasn’t complete without having others there. Neighbours and friends seem to know they were always welcome for dinner. Invited or not, she always insisted they stay. Mom believed that rewards came to those who were responsible and worked hard, and frequently reminded her children of this. We are thankful for the very strong moral compass she instilled in all of us. If desired, memorial donations to the Cambridge Street United Church, or the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
