Obituary for Jim Mantle

James Edward Mantle D.V.M., “Jim” ~ Passed away on Wednesday October 26th, 2022 at the Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a beloved and devoted husband of 48 years to Susan Mantle (nee Fitton). He will be greatly missed by his loving children Mary Rebecca (Charles), Elizabeth Anne (Robert) and George Edward "Ted" (Melissa). Always loved and will be remembered by his grandchildren Eden Taylor, Liliana and Nolan Downer and Lexi and TJ Mantle. Brother to Gail MacDonald, Carole (Alan) Robb, Brenda (Brian) Edwards and Thomas "Tom" (Lorna) Mantle. He will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Jim was born in Paris, ON, on October 7th, 1953 to parents Fred and Mary Mantle.  During his early years on the farm and experience with the local farm veterinarian, Jim knew at the young age of 6 he wanted to be a vet.Dr. Jim graduated from the University of Guelph in 1978 and moved to Lindsay. He was an active veterinarian in Victoria County and the surrounding area for 42 years at the Lindsay Animal Clinic. He was awarded the OVMA Golden Life Achievement Award in 2019 for his service in the field. Although he focused on large animals, he was dedicated to providing quality care to all of his clients.

Jim led the Victoria East Veterinary Science Club from 1981 until 2012 passing along his knowledge of animal biology and veterinary care to more than a generation of 4-H members. He was on the KLH 4-H Association Board of Directors in the late 1980's and then again in the early 2000's. He was honoured for his contribution to the 4-H program in 2005 with the Joy Daniels Volunteer of the Year award.

In addition, Dr. Jim was a member of the Optimist Club of Lindsay for almost 40 years, serving in each position on the club’s Board of Directors, and he supported the Lindsay Central Exhibition, both as a sponsor and an associate director.

Besides his veterinarian responsibilities and community involvement, Dr. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and his favorite hobby of geocaching.

He is "still wandering" and as he loved to say, "Everyone is lost but me." A Celebration of Life will take place on November 11th, 2022 at Celebrations, 35 Lindsay Street North, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
