Sheila
Bebbington
Entered into rest peacefully at the Ross Memorial Hospital on Tuesday September 13th 2022, at the age of 96. Predeceased by her first husband, the late Allan Peacock McKechnie (1923-1998) and infant daughter, Joyce (died at birth in June of 1951). Sheila is lovingly remembered by John Bebbington, a friend from her Scottish childhood whom she married in 1999, and who was a faithful companion for the last twenty-three years of her life. Sheila is survived by her children, Jim McKechnie (Patty), John McKechnie (Adele), and Sandy McKechnie (Lee-Anne). She is fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Alexis (Kendel); Cameron (Agatha); Daniel; Andrew; Ian; Allan; Jenna (Travis); and Marnie (Colin), as well as four great-grandchildren: Colson, Briar, Jensen, and Skye. Sheila was born Jane Sheila Drynan McLuckie in Glasgow, Scotland on May 31st 1926 to the late James T. McLuckie and Jane Armstrong. She immigrated to Canada in 1948, and married Allan McKechnie on April 8th, 1949 in Toronto. Together they raised a family in Long Branch, Richmond Hill, and Thornhill before relocating to Lindsay in 1989. A faithful wife; a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; a maker of delicious Scottish shortbread and Scottish pancakes; and a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Sheila was a friend to many and will be sorely missed. The family is especially thankful for the care and compassion shown by the physicians, nurses, and palliative care team at the Ross Memorial Hospital over the past four weeks. The funeral service will take place at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 40 William Street North, Lindsay on Monday September 19th 2022, at 11:00 AM, with visitation happening at 10:00, also at the church. If desired, memorial donations to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made through Mackey Funeral Home or online at www.mackeys.ca
