Obituary for Janet Swanson

Janet Elaine Swanson (Donaldson) was born December 12, 1932 in Windsor Ontario and died on January 11, 2024 in Lindsay, Ontario at the age of 91.

Janet grew up in Windsor, Ontario with her parents Etta and Bill Donaldson.  She is the second youngest of 5 children: Marjorie, Jim, Jack and Carol. She watched her Mom make beautiful quilts and bake every weekend tons of desserts. She grew up around the world wars and depression.  There was not always meat on the table but they were still better off than most.  Janet eventually took hairdressing and did it as a hobby at home.

Janet Elaine Donaldson met James (Jim) Otto Herman Swanson and eloped with him in 1952.  A year later they had their first son James, followed by Jerry a year later.  3 years later they had Jeffrey and 5 years after that they had a daughter Jane Marie.  Jim passed away April 5, 2017 right before their 65th Anniversary.

In 1962 Jim moved to Labrador City, NL.  The family joined him in 1963. Janet worked at Woolworths on the floor and then in the office.  They vacationed every year usually going back to Ontario to visit family or going across Canada.  One year they rented a houseboat in Bobcaygeon and decided that is where they wanted to retire.  They joined the bowling league there until it burned down.  Janet did Aqua Aerobics until Covid hit in 2020.

They have made many friends in Labrador and Bobcaygeon.  Janet will be greatly missed for her generosity.  Her home was always open to visit and stay as long as required.  They had a bed and breakfast when they first moved to Bobcaygeon but found that friends and family aways wanted to come at the same time.  The strangers that did come were not strangers for long.  They always ended up long lasting friends.

Janet is survived by her sister Carol, 3 sisters-in-law Doreen, Lyn, Bernice, her four loving children, their spouses and 11 grandchildren.

At her request, in her final wishes, there will be no memorial service or funeral by her immediate family.  Her family will join Jim and Janet’s ashes at a later date so they will be eternally entwined.
