John
Doble
John Wingrove Doble of Lindsay, born October 16, 1925 in Sunderland, Ontario, entered into rest at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. Beloved husband of 23 years to Rosalind Doble. Predeceased by his wife Margaret (nee Reaves). Much loved father of Mark (Terry) Doble of Lindsay, Jim (Debra) Doble of Raleigh, NC, and Marilyn (Brent) Huntley of Sunderland. Cherished grandfather of Jon (Suzanne) Doble of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Wesley (Meredith) Doble of Raleigh, NC, Michael (Sarah) Doble of Cary, NC, Laurie (Luke) Ducharme of Waterloo, ON, Andrew (Neeley) Doble of Massey, ON, James Huntley of Vancouver, BC, Margaret Huntley of Sunderland, ON, and great-grand children: Micah, Kaleigh, Ellie and Logan. John was born, raised and spent much of his life at the family farm east of Sunderland. In the 1960s John served as councillor and Deputy-Reeve of the old Township of Brock and returned to Municipal Politics in 1988 when he was elected Regional Councillor for Brock Township. For 15 years during the 1970s and 1980s, John Doble was the Clerk-Treasurer for the Township of Mariposa. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, John and Rosalind served on the Sunderland Historical Society, working to preserve the history of the various families, and businesses who contributed to the south Brock Township community they loved and in which they were both raised. John enjoyed music, especially polkas, big bands and gospel quartets; and played and sang in local old-time music ensembles. He supported the Sunderland Music Festival and encouraged each of his children to actively pursue musical studies. Family came first and Grandpa rarely missed a graduation, sporting event, or concert in which his grandkids were participants. He was a baseball fan, and faithfully followed the Toronto Blue Jays. John Doble was quiet-spoken about his Christian faith; choosing to model it through integrity, love, and acts of kindness to others.
