John Willard Rogers – It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce Willard’s passing after a lengthily and hard fought battle with neuro-endocrine cancer, along with severe complications due to an aneurysm. Willard passed away peacefully on June 12, 2022 in his 83rd year at Lakeridge Health – Oshawa with his devoted and loving family by his side. He is predeceased by his late wife Adeline. He leaves behind his loving partner and best friend Wilma Kirk. Willard was a very proud father and dearly loved his three children, Gloria (Carl), Dennis (Amanda) and Debbie (Jim). He was a loving Grandfather to Kenny (Tina), Ryan (predeceased), Jordan and Michael (Leah). Loving Great Grandfather to Damien, Zack and Keegan. Wilma’s family was very fond of Willard and they will miss him and his quick wit. He will be sadly missed by his siblings; Urban (predeceased), Dave (Pauline predeceased) of Port Perry, Anna (Jim) of Oshawa, Roy (Marlene) of Regina, Preston (predeceased), Joan of Whitby, Lorraine of Victoria, Glen (Beverly) of Puslinch and Gordon of Prince Edward Island. He will be fondly remembered by his many nephews and nieces. Willard will be greatly missed by his many neighbourhood friends. He enjoyed his morning walks, and especially enjoyed chatting with his neighbours who dropped in to visit. Born in Summerside, PEI. He came to Ontario in 1958 at the age of 18 to work as a labourer. Shortly thereafter he began a successful career with General Motors until he retired in 1992. Willard had many interests. He loved working about in his workshop. His gift of small engine repair gave him a sense of accomplishment in his retirement. He loved his Pittsburgh Penguins and followed all of the hockey teams. Willard enjoyed participating in many euchre tournaments, and was an avid outdoors man. He enjoyed meeting new people and maintaining friendships to many. He faced many challenges in his life and overcame them. These last few months brought out the fighter in him again. Through all of this, he never lost his sense of humor. He made people laugh and had a way of putting you at ease. He was a gifted storyteller, had a phrase for most situations and so much more. We Will miss you dearly Dad, thanks a million!
Willard will be laid to rest at Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay. Visitation will be held at Mackey Funeral Home on Sunday June 26th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 31 Russell Street East, Lindsay, on Monday June 27th at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 233 Lindsay Street South, Lindsay. If desired, memorial donations to Diabetes Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
