Obituary for Ken Thurston

Thurston, Kenneth – Passed away suddenly, in his 95th year on Saturday, June 8, 2019 with family by his side at the Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay. He has entered into rest now with his beloved late wife, Jean Thurston (née Quillan 2001) and his son Paul (1970). He was the loving father of Lynda Mackie and Janice (Jim Clarke). Adored Grandpa of William Kellett, Lisa Michele Kellett, Darren Kellett, Jamie Clarke and Jacob Clarke. Great-Grandpa of Christopher Kellett and Shylinn-Kara Kellett. Brother-in-Law to Helen Mackin. Predeceased by his sister Thelma Bennett and brother Ray. Ken was a proud WWII veteran who served with the 12th Canadian Light Field Ambulance in Europe. When he returned from the war, he worked on the railroad in Toronto and then managed the Benson Hotel and the Sailfish Lounge in Lindsay before becoming the owner (with his wife) of Thurston’s Variety in Omemee, Ontario. Ken was an avid reader, historian and sports fan always hoping the Maple Leafs would show success! Ken will be remembered as a true gentleman, smart, kind, generous, compassionate and soft spoken with a wonderful sense of humour. May his laughter and wisdom always ring in our ears. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Drury, Dr. Ulug Mete Unligil and the entire staff in the ER and ICU.
