Obituary for Marilyn DeBois

DEBOIS,  Marilyn Lorraine Ferguson passed away in her hometown of Lindsay on February 18, 2021, after a long illness.  Marilyn was the high school sweetheart and cherished wife of Jack DeBois (2017).  Marilyn was also predeceased by her parents, Roy Allan Ferguson and Elsie Margaret Reid, and her beloved grandmother, "Mrs. Mary Bryson of 33 Sussex Street North".  She is greatly missed by her daughter, Lori (Don Fry), her son, John (Susan Huskinson), and her grand-daughters, Kayla and Madison DeBois.  Marilyn is lovingly remembered by her cousin, Susan Gaskell, and by Jack's cousins, Lynn Maclean and Glen Sutherland, Alice O'Leary, and Donna, Karen, and Mark McCulloch.

Marilyn was, wholly and absolutely, a genuine person.  Her nature was modest.  She loved little dogs.  She taught her children to be helpful, thorough, and neat, and that to "blow one's own horn" was less than good manners.  Marilyn was such good company.  She was keenly interested in the lives of everyone she knew and, in particular, so interested in the lives of the children of everyone she knew!  Marilyn appreciated the power of pretty colours, pretty flowers, china, napkins, and pretty clothes to transform ordinary experience into something much lovelier, and much more fun.  She was all about creating quality of life through her thoughtful talent for making simple events special. She enjoyed nothing more than shopping for cards and gifts, never missed an occasion, and she could not pass a bakery or a chocolate shop without stopping to pick up treats for her family.

On behalf of Marilyn and Jack, their family warmly thanks Dr. Jennifer Ingram, Dr. Jessica Robinson, and Dr. Sarel Vorster for their compassionate care.  We thank Dr. Julie Johnson, Lorraine Roddy, and Sherry Beers for providing special care services for Marilyn that made her more comfortable during her confinement.  We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Tracey Heaslip (Remain at Home Senior Care) who courageously took on the role of Marilyn's Essential Caregiver and thus became her primary supporter through months of isolation in the pandemic.  We are also deeply indebted to Graham Bashford (Castle Keep Retirement Inc.) and the dedicated team of Caregivers who were Marilyn's staunch advocates and whose warm companionship carried Marilyn through her loneliest years:  April Burley, Penny McLennan, Brenda Godfrey, Jennifer Burne-House, and Kim Welsh.  We are especially appreciative of the steady kindness shown Marilyn by Donna Blakely, Eric Murphy, Sue Sears, and Sharon Penzvalto who connected with Marilyn through their thoughtfulness and humour even as her illness progressed.  We greatly appreciate that Marilyn was never forgotten by her church, by the Rev. M Robin Thomson and the congregation of Cambridge Street United Church.  Lastly, wherever they may be - beyond this world - Bubbles and Hank are forever grateful for the faithful friendship of Mary Hall (2018) and Norma Puffer (2019).

Cremation has taken place and a private family ceremony will be held at Riverside Cemetery.  In keeping with the Ferguson family tradition, Marilyn's life will be celebrated with an "Afternoon Tea" later in the year.  If desired, a memorial donation to the Alzheimer Society of Kawartha Lakes would be appreciated by the family.  Donations and condolences can be made through Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay or online at http://www.mackeys.ca
