Obituary for Mike Wilkinson

It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of Michael William Ernest Wilkinson on December 22, 2020. Mike was born on May 27th, 1958 in Lindsay Ontario to Dorelle and Ernie Wilkinson. After leaving high school Mike tested several career paths that ranged from auto mechanics to being a meat butcher. In the end Mike followed a similar path as his father and grandfather and joined the army in 1981. His roots began in the Royal Canadian Regiment but as always his thirst for adventure and challenge led him to the Airbourne Regiment where we heard many crazy stories of him jumping out of planes. His military journey took him through the Van Doos, French Recce Company and then to the Pathfinders Unit. He finished his career as an instructor for new recruits with the Scottish Regiment on Vancouver Island. Mike’s final occupation was that of a supervisor at the Pickseed Plant in Lindsay. One cannot argue the strong determination and work ethic that lived within Mike during his lifetime. He was known by many to be the first one to step forward to help family, friends, and strangers. This included Mike’s time as a volunteer men’s counselor for those suffering from trauma and addiction.

Mike leaves behind his greatest blessings, his children – Mike Jr (Michelle) and Renae and Ryan (Theresa). He will be greatly missed by his sisters Donna (John Parkin), Jeannie (Stephen Sutherland), and brother Kelly (Jill) Wilkinson.

After traveling a sometimes long and difficult road, Mike is finally in a place of great peace. Waiting for him with open arms are his mother, father, son Bo and sister Bonnie.

Be with God Mike. We will miss you.

Donations in Mike’s memory can be made to The Royal Canadian Legion.

Due to safety concerns and the restrictions caused by the present pandemic there will be a private burial service at Riverside Cemetery where Mike will be laid to rest with his Mother, Father, and Son Bo.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay. Donations and condolences may be made through the funeral home or online at www.mackeys.ca
