Obituary for Reg Learn

Learn, Reginald George - In his 92nd year, after a brief battle with cancer, Reg passed away peacefully at the Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay on Monday, February 21, 2022. The family has lost a loving husband, father and brother. Reg is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Rebecca Monk (Murray) and he is predeceased by his first wife, Joan Weedon and daughter Lori Lewis. Dear brother of Richard Learn (Betty), Susan St Pierre (Ron), and April Beatty (Don). Beloved uncle of Kimberley MacMillan & Nathan Reeve, Larissa MacMillan & Steve Clark, Logan Beatty & Katie, Rick Learn & Ann (deceased), Rob Learn & Grace, Tally Wellman, Stephanie Rea & Chris, Bryan St. Pierre & Carol, as well as many great nieces and great nephews. Directly upon leaving high school in Sarnia, Reg started what was to become a career spanning six decades as a railroader. From shovelling coal into a CNR steam engine to investigating rail accidents for the federal TSIB, to rail accident investigations and consultation with Forensic Engineering. He earned a prestigious fellowship, Chartered Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transportation, on May 29, 2013. Reg was a proud member of the Transportation Masonic Lodge in Toronto. He was also a member of the Oshawa Shrine Club of the Rameses Temple, where he was also a member of their Colour Guard.  Aside from work, sports and the demands of family life he continued to play hockey and developed an interest in judo. On March 1, 1968 he earned his Black Belt from Kodokan Judo of Japan. Reg was a naturally gifted and talented musician. His soaring tenor voice often took a back seat to his amazing jazz and rockin’ boogie piano skills.  He was not often caught without at least one harmonica in his pocket. Reg enjoyed choral music, and singing most notably in the ‘Gold’ concerts here in Lindsay. Reg and Jean loved to travel and cruised most of this world, ever exploring the delights of life.  He did indeed live a full and most interesting life. A funeral service was held on Friday, February 25th at 2:00p.m. at the Cambridge Street United Church in Lindsay. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay.
