Obituary for Bert Blackwood

William John “Bert” Blackwood (1946-2019)

It is with deep sadness that the family of Bert Blackwood announces his sudden passing in a tragic car accident on October 3, 2019. Bert is survived by his loving wife and best friend Lee (Wetmore) of 49 years. He was the proud father of Jodie (Rick) Brown, Todd (Liz) & Sheri (Sam) Meadema; devoted grandfather of five adoring grandchildren: Cooper, Todd Jr., Tatum, Paige and Wyatt. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister Louise (Bruce) Martin and sister-in-law Patty (Stuart) Butts and all of his dear family members. Bert was born in Lindsay on May 3, 1946 to his proud parents Don & Ethel (predeceased). He attended LCVI and developed many special friendships there and at his family cottage in Rosedale. He graduated from Ryerson University, continued working in Toronto for a few years, then pursued his career in sales and marketing in the United States–where they raised their family, built many relationships and enjoyed many travels. Bert and Lee retired to Lindsay four years ago, reuniting with many lifetime friends. Bert joined the Probus Club and became actively involved in the community. Bert always looked forward to spending each summer at the cottage, in Pleasant Point, on Sturgeon Lake. He truly appreciated all the special times with his family and friends. He had a contagious smile and a heart of gold. We will cherish the fond memories we shared together. At his request, Bert has been cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date. In memory of Bert, donations to the Lindsay Meals on Wheels would be appreciated by his family. His family and friends know he is at peace hanging with Roy Orbison and listening to the oldies.
