Obituary for Yvonne Walden

Betty Yvonne Walden (Atkinson)

With great sadness, the family of Yvonne Walden conveys her passing on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay.
Born the first day of Spring in 1934, she was the daughter of Blanche and Gordon Atkinson (deceased). Loved wife of William (Bill) Walden and sister to Bryce Atkinson (Nancy, deceased); fondly remembered by her daughter, Karen Cartmell, her son-in-law, Andrew, and her grandsons, Greg (Rebecca), Alex (Stella) and great-grandson James; son Bruce Walden and his husband Jay Miller; and son Gord Walden, his wife, Brenda, grandson Andrew and great-granddaughter Alice.

Yvonne lived most of her life in Lindsay, Ontario and was an enthusiastic advocate for the town. She taught elementary school in the Lindsay area in her early career. A member of Cambridge Street United Church for over 65 years, she was known for her support and generosity. She enjoyed videotaping church and community events, especially at the Academy Theatre. Yvonne was an excellent seamstress, and we will always remember the elaborate turquoise and white outfits she created in 1967 for the entire family to wear in celebration of the centennial.

All her friends knew Yvonne for her vast collection of frog paraphernalia displayed at her beloved cottage on Balsam Lake. Always remembering a birthday or special event, she would send a personalized card of her own creation.

A private family funeral service will be held by the Rev. Craig Donnelly at Cambridge St. United Church. Her ashes will be interred in the Lindsay Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial donations (payable direct) to the Canadian Cancer Society, Cambridge United Church, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated by the family.

Condolences and donations may be made at Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay (705-328-2721) or online at www.mackeys.ca
