The Years We Shared

I met Norm in 1977. He was 26 years old. I had never met someone who had such a free spirit and passion for life. His life experiences couldn't have been farther from mine and yet somehow we built a relationship  and married in August 1978. What ambition he had- what determination to be successful in his businesses! His physical strength, street sense, business savvy and hard work all worked in his favour and he did experience success. But no success could compare to the joy and satisfaction he felt with fatherhood. He welcomed each of his three sons Nick, Elliot and Andrew with the deepest of love. Circumstances beyond both of our control resulted in a marriage of only 7 years. But despite all the years that have passed, I have always cared for him, I have always respected his love for the boys. He was the very best father he could be, taking them skiiing and camping and fishing. There was always lots of activity on visits with him. He went to great lengths to spend time with them and be generous with them always. He probably never realized how much they did love him and they don't realize how much they have received from him. But I know. When I have seen their natural athletic ability, strong ambition, love of the outdoors and nature, and strong work ethic I definitely see Norm shining through.
