Obituary

Obituary for Robert Brian Tompkins

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the tragic and unexpected passing of our beloved Robert "Bob" Tompkins on Monday, March 18, 2019, at the age of 71. After a sudden heart attack while on a Caribbean cruise, Bob went to be with his Lord and Saviour. He was the Dear son of Helen and the late Maurice Tompkins (2000), devoted husband of Mary Lou (née Quibell) in their 50th year of marriage. Proud father of Angela Engel (Tim) of Burgessville, Jeff (Lynn) of Lindsay, and Steve (Krista) of North Bay. Loveable Grandpa of Alaura, Cara, Jack and Liam (arriving April 2019). Having been raised as an only child, Bob felt very blessed to spend the past four years getting to know his birth siblings Paul (Shelia) Henley, the late John Henley (2015) (Mary Eleanor), Bill (Emily) Henley, Darlene (Randy) Doner, Brian Sloan, Ron (Shirley) Sloan, Marilyn (Wayne) Pickard, and Barb (Bob) Howland. He began impacting many with his musical talents at the age of 15 as the organist at Little Britain United Church. For almost four decades, Bob was the Director of Music at St. Andrew's Presbyterian, Lindsay, and the originator of its Living Christmas Tree. Since retiring from St. Andrew's, many congregations were blessed by his ministry of music as their supply organist and soloist. From his farming roots, he was quite active on the Lindsay Exhibition board for many years. He was also a much loved teacher in the Peterborough Board, influencing the lives of hundreds of young people with his acceptance, encouragement and sense of humour. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 2:00 PM. at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Lindsay. The family will receive friends following the service in the main Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes Music Program or A Place Called Home would be appreciated by the family and can be arranged through Mackey Funeral Home, (705) 328-2721 or online at www.mackeys.ca
